What is Cloudtop?
Cloudtop is a managed personal cloud desktop for open-source apps and files. The dashboard organizes your machines; each machine has its own browser desktop and installed apps.
What is a machine?
A machine is where your apps and files live. It has a memory capacity and storage allowance. You can see its app status, manage its size, and open its desktop from the dashboard.
Do I need to install anything?
You can use Cloudtop in your browser. Where supported, you can also install your desktop as a web app for a separate window and quicker access. Your apps still need a network connection.
Can I personalize my desktop?
Yes. In Settings → Appearance, choose your wallpaper and desktop icons, pin menu-bar shortcuts, and show or hide indicators. These preferences are saved in the browser for that machine.
Where is Search?
Search is a built-in desktop app. Open it from the app menu or press Ctrl / ⌘ K to find installed apps and desktop tools. The app menu stays a simple list.
What happens when I close an app?
Closing a desktop window keeps the app ready for three minutes by default. Reopen it during that time to continue quickly. Change the delay in Settings, or use Stop to stop the app immediately.
How is my storage measured?
Your machine’s storage panel counts its files, app data, and databases together. Prepared hosts enforce that shared quota; the panel shows when an older host still needs storage preparation. Terminal’s normal disk view follows the workspace mount.
How do I get access?
Cloudtop is in private beta. Accounts and access are arranged with the Cloudtop operator. Existing users can sign in with their account; public signup and self-service payments are not available yet.
